I acquired an brand new MS170 for almost free from a friend to add to my collection (028AV and MS261CM). I've already ordered an adjustable carb, side adjuster, felling dogs and done the muffler mod on it before it even had any gas put in it. While I'm waiting for my parts above to come in, is there anything in the oiling system that can be done to improve it?

It has the 16" bar currently and I will probably swap it for a 14" down the road just to use it as a limbing saw. I'm just trying to do all I can to this little saw while it's clean so it's not so messy to do down the road.

Thanks,

Brian

No they are what they are, putting an 025 carb on it hey oem or aftermarket? Most of the knock offs seem to be garbage but who knows maybe you’ll have luck. Already bought enough in parts to equal the saws value personally I’d have just let it be they work fine for limb work as it is. Saws are 179-199 new depending on area your in.

I bought a knock off. I have less than $30 in this saw brand new so if the carb has to be swapped later I’m still money ahead.

Looks like I’ll do the timing advance on it and let it do it’s thing.

Thanks,

Brian

I think Farmertec has a high output ms250 oil pump that might fit. I don't know it it is actually higher output, because I don't think the stroke is longer than their stock pump, but they put larger holes on it.

Just buy a pump and couple of drive gears so you will have them when you need them.
They are a handy little saw for light work, as well built as any other in their category.
Am contemplating getting one, mainly because Echo does not seem to have their game
together parts ways, and the Stihl looks to be better made in that size.
I took a look at the bottom of the CS-3510, its all open pockets of plastic with edges that
will get cut when you put the saw down, when cut they will be weakened, at least the Stihl
170 / 180 has way less open corners to get cracked or busted along the bottom when you
put it down, keeping down weight it is not, because if you reversed the open honeycomb
facing it up and put the flat end down, then the problem would be solved.

I'd take a 352 over a 170 any day. Way easier to work on, separate choke lever, better emissions.

So would I, but the 352 has a completely different bottom than the newer 3510, I had one, it was a little annoying, fuel cap always leaked, and it always wandered off tune, I think now both issues may have been related, I think tank breather was the issue, pressure in the tank changed tune and caused the leak, which only happened when the saw sat.

If you haven't, upgrade bar and chain to
.050 Guage 14" which is 50 dl. The "stock" chain is only puny .043 ga. My little one is stock otherwise. Runs and oils fine.
Convenient same chain on 020T top handle.
