What kinda trick~helpful curves could a fellow roll into the auger bit?
Any shapes or patterns that help the ice shed/flow better?
Vibratory motions like a screw gun or hammering like a air wrench?
Any coatings allowed?
Cutting edge angles or skip tooth~serrated edges?
Side clearances on the auger?

Yeah, yeah, I thinks too much sometimes.

I see the guy with the two husky’s runs an earth auger gear box. I wonder if the ratio is better or is he doing it for the extra strength.

I’ve seen anywhere from 30:1 to 40:1 ratio on the dirt augers. No idea what the ice augers spin.

According to the jiffy website, they run 15:1 or 25:1 on the electrics. No idea the gas.

I did a little light work on mine. Just enough to hold rpm in the hole. I have been thinking of doing the full port job and changing the gearing.

I have a solo powerhead on my auger that would benefit from a smidgen of porting.

By March, our ice up here in interior Alaska can hit 6 ft thick. My little solo gets bogged down down near the bottom of the hole, with all that heavy ice shavings weighing the auger down.

Ice fishing up in the northwest arctic, was even worse. End of season we'd be running TWO extensions for better than six ft of ice.

2 guys would have to hold the auger, to lift it out of the hole.

But the biggest problem, you always get out-fished by the women:

Port it and it'll clear the chips better with the extra rpm's.

We had 4 feet of ice here last year. My handlebars were almost touching the ice when it broke through.
