The quality of the 036 meteor piston and cylinder on my red lever are as nice (or nicer) as the Mahle p/c on the 036Pro I'm currently building now.

However, if you are interested in resale value, oem is the way to go.

In most stihls you can buy a oem piston from the dealor for what a meteor shipped is plus the oem one is much lighter and that's good for everything.

I don't like the cabers either,I think there to hard. I'm kinda weird though

Not if your Australian

Over $200 for a piston.
Add $60 for a couple rings
Wrist pin bearing at about $30
Not sure on what the wrist pin and clips cost here but you get the picture

For an 066 I was quoted about $400 total
Cylinder is $1200

I use meteor pistons at about $80 Aus dollars delivered
I like them

A KS 660 piston kit with rings is 50$ here.

Meteor is as good or better and can be made the same weight as a oem but you have to use a different wrist pin.

I always prefer OEM. Lighter.

On some models, the variance of the meteor makes it (possibly) better for porting.

On the 10mm 044, they casted the piston like a 12mm but with a 10mm pin bore. So the skirts and pins are wider, as wide as a 12mm. There's the issue of too much space between the inside pin bosses though. People argue on this, but I've yet to hear of a failure.

On the 046/460, the meteor has wider skirts and pins than OEM. So once you port for a meteor, you really can't go back.

A 064 with a meteor is one of the very few combinations where you can get 70% on the exhaust in a stihl

After you rebuild a few saws you could buy a plane and fly to another country get ur parts fly back and sell extra parts to pay for fuel cost

Yep.

I contacted Stihl Australia about the price difference and was told that all stihl dealerships were individually run franchises that set their own pricing and they advised I shop around.
I asked them if a franchise came with a balaclava and plastic gun the owners could point at customers when giving prices on parts.

I got no reply

20161207_204647.jpg BTW....here is an example of some of the "southern luv" from one of our local Sthil Shops on doing work on my Stihl 034 Super!!!!They goofed and called it an 038 Super!:rolleyes::cursing::greedy::greedy::greedy::greedy:
Guess I could always start high like on FleaBay...say $799 plus 199 shipping and hope fer the best!!:eusa_whistle::eusa_doh::susurro:
I've already sourced the parts pretty much and I can get most for under $75 -100. Reckon its time for me to try my mitts at this... :tejeqteje:
