Memorial Day 2025 is this coming Monday May 26.. I hope all of the great members here take some time to think about what the day truly means. I have seen the day be desecrated by folks that have no respect for it.

I would like to hear what folks plan for the day

It always has been, and will be a very important day to me.
In the groomed graveyard I visit my Son, Father, Grandfather, Great-Great Grandfather, and Great-Great Grandfather.
If I go to the south plot I sit with those that families have sadly forgotten them

Probably check to see if there are any Gardenia blooms at the family house.
Take a few of any flowers in bloom and go to the places where rest of my family are buried.
Got some recent ashes from my last closely related family, that I want spread a little of at each place.

Most of my recent relatives who have passed have all been cremated and spread around. Over the years, my jobs have taken me all over the US and I have been able to visit cemeteries in New York, Massachusetts, Alabama, Kansas and Texas where many of my ancestors are laid to rest who fought and some died in the Revolutionary and Civil War (both North and South). These sites were humbling to visit and still humbling to remember!

I just got word a neighbor passed away this afternoon. I was thinking about him yesterday as I knew he was in hospice care and his time was ending. He lost his battle with pancreatic cancer. There is never a good time to pass but just ahead of Memorial Day is tough for the family to plan a funeral. Today of course is the Thursday ahead of Memorial Day and I know how tough it is. My Father also passed the Thursday ahead of Memorial Day. It was tough for us all but extra tough on my brother and his family as his daughter was graduating that weekend and they had a huge celebration planned.

I'll be giving thanks this weekend to my dad (RIP), uncles, both of my grandads, all of my great grandads, three of my cousins, and two of my great uncles who were all military men. Some were career - many were combat veterans. My mom's dad was a gunner's mate on a battleship that was sunk in WWII and was a "floater" for two days in the north Atlantic until they were picked up.

I’m looking forward to spending time with my family. I’ve been working overtime the last few weeks so I’m really looking forward to that. And remembering those who gave their lives for our freedom.
Going to be with my parents and my side of the family tomorrow celebrating my grandmother’s birthday. Frying fish and smoking butt and brisket.
My dad was drafted in 1968. I appreciate him more and more the older I get. He’s currently 76 and going through chemo with lymphoma. It’s not aggressive right now. But it reminds me that everyday is a blessing.
I hope you all have a good memorial day (and weekend). And are able to reflect, connect, or simply rest.

As I have done for the last few years I will be doing honor guard for two services Sunday and two Monday. It will be even more difficult this year with the guy who has taught me the ropes has passed on. I hope to fill in his place this weekend without forgetting anything. Thank you to all of those who have served.

I am not techno-savy at figuring out a lot of the BS on the internet but I saw this the other day and I wonder if General Patton actually said it.

He did indeed say it. I did a 10 page report on him in American History in high school. Got an A on it.

This was our little ole township celebration Sunday. This was the 124th year. My father never missed one until he became in such poor health he was in a nursing home back in 2013. He passed away on the Thursday before Memorial Day 2017. We were not able to bury him until the following week but he is in that cemetery along with his parents and grandparents. My oldest son was living on the farm across the road but has since moved to a different place. Now another of my sons lives there.

This was some of my flags from Memorial Day 2024. I live on a dead end road so no one sees them but I do not care. Sadly this year I was not able to get them out but I will for July 4th. Then God willing if I am still here come next July 4th 2026 when we celebrate 250 years in will be fun.
