Now to set the port heights.

I push a ring in in the bore to the height I'm looking for. In this case, I'm at 118*.



Then I measure from the squish band down to the bottom of that ring.



And then cut a piece of card stock that width.



Put that card stock in the bore......



....and see where it stops the piston.

My weapon of choice for the upper transfers.

Roughing them in.

And I use this to square up my corners.

After a bit of grinding...

On the lowers I just nipped to center a wee bit, just to keep any liquid fuel from pooling there.



Widened the exhaust just a little....being careful not to raise it at all.

Next I do just a little sanding......you won't fine any polishing in my saws. I don't see any gains from a shiny port.......but that's just me.

60 grit for leveling.



And a diamond ball to bevel the port edges.

After a little beveling and leveling. Hey......that's catchy.......maybe I'll write a song. Or not.



Then I hand sand the port edges with 220 grit.



And I use this little bugger with some 320 to get the bottom edges of the port bevels.......just to be sure. They are hard as hell to see.



Finally, I run ScotchBrite thru it.....

Looks pretty good after all that. I just want the rings to last.



Final finish in the exhaust is 220.



60 grit in the intake.
