It's a bridge port.

Do you still use bridge ports in some saws, and if so, which ones? They are in my 460, and I love the way that thing runs.

IMO, they can have a 2 fold purpose. 1) direct the flow to the back of the cylinder, and 2) increase transfer volume.

Do you change your #s for a saw with bridge ports?

I still use them in some saws......I just don't talk about what I do and how I do it too much anymore. I've been slammed for using them......and ridiculed. I've had people copy the things I do......then find out later that some things I was doing were not much help. So, in the interest of not leading anyone down a dead end path, and keeping my sanity, I just do my job and keep to myself.

I feel the information you give will lead the right people down a path of success. You give just the right amount of info in the right way that causes people to read and make their own recipes. Everyone has different tastes and there are always more then one way to meet a goal. I sure appreciate all you have shared and ive always strayed from your recipes but enough similar that they run well. My hardest thing was to forget the numbers and things i do on pipe motors.

One thing I'd like to say is, porting a saw is like how a good cook makes a good meal. It's not just one ingredient, it's how all the ingredients come together.

There will always be someone trying to copy a recipe and the moan it didn't work for them. When the copycat cook should really look in the mirror ;)..

Cheers and please carryon showing us how you cook up a good saw :):D

I've ported too damn many saws I suppose. I'm up to about 1800 or so. Posting about saws, and talking about them ain't to interesting to me anymore. I've actually more interested in older two saws and sand cast stuff than I am in porting and cant racing.

Maybe @Mastermind Will post up a thread of a nasty 066 although I would have to finish it..lol hint hint. LOL.

If not, it's all good. I always liked seeing your build posts and videos. Not many are as outgoing as you. There will always be haters, remember that but your chit just runs and speaks for itself so don't hold back because of a few. I came back to you for a reason and I'm happy you finally took my saw. Don't think I would have sent it anywhere else. You know afterwards I read you won the 066 build off somewhere so I got mad excited! Hahaha

Remember, make it hot! LOL!
Thanks again!

Anybody could copy the work but it has no wow or pride in it. If you want someone's recipe it will be much more than a numbers game and not easy to duplicate. Consider asking all the questions directly from builder. You will find it is a snake with many heads. Most forget each saw was built with a general consideration of the intended purpose. Some parts are just better at performing that task than others.

having work copied is the most sincere form of flattery :)

also, the benefit of what is shared is that it hopefully becomes a jumpstart for someone else towards optimization. ...ie ....learning.

I don't think taking someone else's work and calling it your own is right.. its akin to stealing... but if its all about sharing and learning as a group then I'm all for it.

that said, that MM has shared anything at all is wonderful and admirable and hugely appreciated

Randy, I'm not sure who does the bashing, but I can say w/o any hesitation that the benefits from your sharing so far out weight any criticism that it is important for you to know that.

As you know I have saws that you have ported, I have modified and or repaired saws myself based on information I have learned from you, and I even have saws ported by others that have incorporated the advice you were kind enough to provide, and I'm proud of all of them, and use them on a regular basis.

I can not imagine how much poorer this and other sites would be w/o your input. From advice on porting, to timing advances, to installing a cylinder, and cleaning a cylinder, etc, etc, your advice has been invaluable.

Please remember that the vast majority of us greatly appreciate your advice as we proceed into the future.

Ah....I think maybe you misunderstood some of my post. I was subject to criticism over the bridge ports......but that has less to do with why I stopped sharing so many details than this did.

I have seen people copy things I've done, and then discarded because they didn't really pan out. I worry that people will pick up an idea that I posted about without realizing it was just something I did and gave up on shortly afterward.

I really don't want to lead anyone astray.

I'm just like everyone else. Just learning as I go.
