Thanks John. This is a recycled thread......but has a lot of pics and video. I figured these guys might enjoy it.
great read here. i have never owned any saw bigger than 50cc or so. i have run a few bigger saws though. would the 461 with a 20" bar run an 8 pin, or would a fella just stick with the 7 pin driver? i have been thinking of buying a little bigger saw with a 20"-25" bar for the bigger stuff. thank you

SO nice and clean. Need another T1 build! Great sharing of your work and tips. I noticed the top cover screws were slotted and torx. Is that a 461 thing?

The 461 is the only saw I've seen that on.

An 8 pin with a 20" would be no problem for the 461 even stock.

Did you have to rewrite the thread Randy or is there a way to save posts and move them to another forum?

Coils.....

The MS461 is rev limited to 13,500. To make the saw unlimited I use either a 460, or 660 coil. On this saw, I have a 660 coil to use.

As you can see in this pic, all three holes don't line up using the 660 coil. On the 460 coil there are only two bolts as well, so I don't worry about this.

you wouldn't mind sharing the part numbers to either coils would you either the 460 or 660?

The 460, and the 660 coil: 1122 400 1314

There are earlier 066 coils, but the coil from an aluminum flywheel saw is different. It will run, but the advance curve is not the same.

have you ever tried a 1128 400 1309 coil on a 461?

Yes.......it works fine. Only two of the three bolts are used though.

So are there any gains with the 1309, on a stock 461?

I read over there that the 1309 has a more aggressive timing curve, and they only came on the early 046's. They are supposed to be the best running coil of the different ones that came on a 046's, just wondering if that might also apply to a 461?

I'm sure it there would.

What are the major differences between a 460 and a 461 other than the cylinder design? Or in simpler terms, what parts are interchangeable?

I like the propane heating prep before spraying and the monkey-made piston stop! Hell I like all of it, even the dang old tattoo. Pretty cool Vince won it & it fly's private and stuff to oz. I don't know what i'd do opening a pm to notify me of winning a brand spanking 461 + monkey fondle, my heart may stop.

There are times you have to do things that you don't like and I had to sale my 461 and I wish I never did it to this day
