Makita 7900 fuel cap

So I've had the above mentioned 7900 for 4 months or so. I've been hand/finger tightening the fuel cap when I fill it up. I've noticed a gas leak from the saw and I swear it looks like it's from the fuel cap. Do you guys who have this saw use a scrench or screwdriver to tighten the cap?

Those caps will split down the middle and weep fuel, the O-ring will also give out eventually. The best solution, replace it with a Husqvarna flip cap from a 572, that cap will work for the oil cap as well.

That's what I did with my 6100. I didn't like the Dolmar caps at all. I could finger tighten them and still have to use the scrench to loosen them. The Husqvarna caps are great.

My rule is that the slots on fuel caps that accept screnches are for loosening, not tightening. If a cap leaks from being finger tightened, clean it or replace it.

I mean, loosening is what those slots are there for. I can't think of a single time out of who knows how many thousand tanks I've put through Stihl 0xx saws where I've been able to loosen the caps by hand.

The thing is there's no gasket or seal on the fuel cap of my 7900 - it's just plastic screwed into plastic. Kinda easy to see why it would seep and leak gas. So my local Tractor Supply has a "universal" flip out fuel cap that's supposed to fit all husky models after 2016. I assume this means it will fit a 572 and thereby fit my 7900?

It should. I have a Husqvarna 545 that came with Flippy caps. I tried them on my 6100 before ordering more and they fit.

If it fits the 572 it will fit the 7900. The factory cap on the 7900 is supposed to have an O-ring.

I purchased the Husqvarna caps at the local Tractor Supply Co., $9 each plus tax. I have the OEM caps and would be willing to send them to you if you wish.

Thank you sir for the very kind offer but I think I'm going to get a few of the Husqvarna caps from my local Tractor Supply store. They've got one in stock and hopefully I can get a few more from them soon. Thank you again...
