So I got home after work, head back into town and got some groceries,I get back home I decide to fire up the 101 and keep the seals lubed up! LOL
Fired up like normal let it sit there and idle for a good five minutes give her a few revs sounded real good and then boom! Take a look at the saw and the muffler is blown out! I thought maybe something was thrown out of it, pull the muffler and find it sucked a part of the muffler in! Suck!!

That sucks. I can only imagine significant damage to the cylinder too. It might clean up, and with a new piston and rings run again, but will surely not be the same.

It’s can be bored, it’s .024 over now, .030 will probably clean it up, and they can be bore .060 easy...will see

That muffler looks rotten, If so that's why it failed. That sucks.
Ya I looked at it before I started it, and even touched it, pressed on it, It felt solid, I had run it pretty good the other day, putting a lot of load on, and that was the first sign of rust, the rest off the muffler is still solid, But obviously time has taken it’s toll on it!

The rest of it is solid I can push on it hard and it doesn’t move

I guess I don't understand. The rotted cover is a cp/797/101 type and this picture is a sp125.

I am saying the cp cover seemed solid, I could push on it, it seemed fine, or I wouldn’t have run it, the sp muffler has almost no time and Is rusty as hell visually. It was avoidable but I did think it was rotten, I have an almost new box muffler off a 795, that I ran on it for a short time. I am also surprised it sucked it in when it was running

Ya it suck because it could have been avoided! I had checked it and it seemed solid! Looks like this block will get to visit your block at Terry’s! Lol this block hasn’t made that trip, so she must have wanted to meet him bad! Lol

I have other mufflers, and took off an nos box muffler to try this, had an nos puck muffler or could have bought a gem! It was worse off than I thought, live and learn

Man, I'm sorry that happened Nathan. I guess the next step is to get into it and see how bad it is internally.
Ya I am going to tear it down soon, I think I will use this tank clutch and handle to break in that other 101, before the wb,
I am going to assume it need a bore and piston at this point. It still turns over fine, but the chunk of muffler is still in there

That’s bad news didn’t expect to this scenario luckily the Saw wasnt running full tilt In wood it’s like having your car bashed when it’s parked
It sucks but it could have been worse! The head is fine will probably have him touch it up, add a few pound of compression and put in the thinner head gasket

I had a portion of the throttle linkage clip fail and get sucked though the intake and get lodged in the forward transfer port .Running full out to boot .I had to get the borescope to figure what happened .It dinged the crown of the piston and jambed the top ring . I rolled it backwards and got it out.Tore down the engine, freed the ring and put it back together .It lost some static compression but didn't change the running condition .Lucky break I guess .
