I was looking at another forum where the poster said he buys bearings that are shielded on both sides, removes one of the shields, and stuffs green grease into the bearing before sealing it up again. What is the is green grease he is referring to? The application for the bearings is for the front wheels on a Wheel Horse / Toro tractor. Thanks in advance.

Thanks bud. Much appreciated. Now that you mention it, I remember a grease cartridge from Lucas and some blather about green. Thanks again.

He may have been referring to this:

Other manufacturers make similar lithium based, waterproof, high performance, green-coloured greases:

I would be concerned with the possibility of the grease not spinning out of the bearing quickly enough and blocking the oil from the fuel mix getting to the bearing. I clean out all the grease and relube the bearing with the same oil you mix with the gas. The bearing is (over)lubricated and ready for startup, and everything is compatible.
If the engine is going to sit for an extended period of time before startup, the grease makes more sense.
Maybe I am just overthinking the situation.

Lucas Red & Tacky on everything except boat trailer wheel bearings has been a winner for me.
