They will pull a 18"lp alright . a .325 16" ok 421 is a pretty neat little work horse .

They come w 3/8 from factory, I too would agree that .325 would be a better choice for this saw, I may change my son's over once the original 16" bar is shot

Hold on a second. They come with 3/8LP, not regular 3/8. I'm sure it would pull an 18" LP, but I don't think regular 3/8 on that saw would make much sense.

I have that GB bar and have run it on my 421 for few test cuts. @Red97 modified a rimsprocket for mine to run 3/8lp.

A041 fits K041. Tail is a different shape I think.

You Can also modify a K095 mount to fit a 421. I did that on my 421 to run a Sugihara 18" .325. Very light and being ported, it really turns that chain.

I have modified the new 16 in speedcut Oregon bar to run on the 421. just haven't got much time. I really like the 3/8 lp stihl ps chain on it though. I also have it modified to run a rim sprocket as well. @fordf150 hooked me up with that one.

Correct LP, would make more sense to just have .325

3/8lp Stihl was fast and smooth. Smoother than .325 (atleast in my mind). I went .325 .050 72 since I have a few saws that run the same bar.

Tell me about it. I've got 3/8lp .050, .325 .050, and 3/8 .050, .058, and .063. Probably add a .404 .063 setup too.

Yes it's a pain. I'm thinking about buying a .325 .050 72 bar for my Stihl 026Pro so the 346xp, 421 and that saw can all share chains. Right now the 026 is .325 .063.

The problem is the 026's bar is like new and I have 3 nice chains for it. It's like a wicked game, sell what you currently have, take a loss and re-buy so they all have some commonality or just run a few odd balls?

As for those that say a .325 is better than 3/8 low profile... I have switched my 026 saws (50cc Stihl) to run with large format Picco (low profile) bars and PS loops, and they absolutely SCREAM with that setup compared to either .325 or 3/8 standard B&C.

.325 has nearly the same kerf as 3/8 std and so the cutting amount is the same. I made many comparison tests with those two setups on my 026 saw fleet, and there was narry any difference in timed cuts. So I flipped all my 026 saws at that time to run 3/8 std B&C as I had a lot of larger Stihl saws already running 3/8 std 0.050 B&C. Then I got a large mount Picco Stihl bar and ran with with PS chain, and I never looked back. Those are now my second favorite saws after my 361s now. They cut a lot faster with the narrower kerf. Less work, faster cuts. I sold off all my .325 B&C and now I run 3/8 std B&C 0.050 on my 60cc+ Stihl saws, and Picco on all the 5occ and smaller ones.

As for square filing, I have also run that, but talk about fast dulling chains. If you are racing, great. In the woods? Worthless. Also really hard to file and get right. I round file everything now. I run full chisel 75% of the time when I an cutting clean wood, and semi-chisel 25% of the time in the crud and flush cutting stumps and the like.
