Thanks Al, @drf256 for promoting me to take the rings off :campeon:. I was very surprised to find all that burnt oily residue behind them. Even after all that ultransonic Cleaning

I’ve sanded the cylinder a little, which smoothed it, I guess it’s not increased the squish that much
Although the intake pic above doesn’t really show it, I’ve improved the bevelling.

I will reassemble it tomorrow, depending if I’ve any other stuff todo ;)

oh the timings were int 80 and ex 105 I never looked at the trans.

maybe I should tune the saw with with/without the filter and see what difference it makes..I,m sure it does but how much ?
Maybe on a very windy day, so it blows the dust”n”chips away

It was a huge difference on a ported saw...at least the older non compensating flocked version. @drf256 can chime in.

I never saw a metal mesh one for the 360 style, but I could be wrong. You can also plug the hole but then you’d need to run the older style covers

The nylon mesh ms260 filters flow just about as good as the older 026 metal mesh filters.
Ima go out on a limb here and speculate that it’s the same scenario with the 036/ms360 filters.

I’m running an oem mesh one on my 026. It does a good job, but I’ve never had the chance to run a mesh one on a 036/360. The flocked ones are not to great on my saws though.

There is a good AM metal mesh offering on eBay for the 360. One can use the original oem metal mesh on the newer style rear cover and the cover just won’t lock on. You’ll need to modify or replace the metering cover as well. If you leave the metering cover on, the old style filter won’t sit flush to the carb.

The 026 metal filter flows the best, but the OEM (only oem) nylon filter is right there with it. I did some testing and found no reduction in performance between the two, so I now use the nylon on the saws where it fits-the newer rear cover.

Unfortunately, this does not spill over to the 1125 filters. Only the metal flows well. The Nylon 360 filter is the best of the 360 offerings and the flocked is simply terrible. I’ll post some dyno pics of an Ms360 I built years ago with flocked, nylon and then no filter. The difference was astounding. The better the filtration, the less the performance, as one might expect with the same physical area for filtration.

I bought an 038 metal mesh filter to try on one of those.

It’s a completely different design and won’t fit. The choke on 038 is in the filter and on an 036, it’s integral to the carb.

Today I Assembled the saw,, I enlarged the exhaust hole a bit more, added the key with 30thou taken off. Put the same bar and chain on and hit the same wood as before 15.5” across although it not round.
