Let's Talk Clutches . . .

Big logs with big saws, especially geardrives, can be different as you WILL likely leverage with the dogs. Of course this is not to make up for a dull chain but to keep the saw working. You may also feather the throttle when coming out of a bucking cut or cleaning up a face cut and possibly when touching up a back cut.

I would say I only use dawgs when felling, I mean my spikes will touch the wood but I don't necessarily push hard on them, but use them.

All my chains self feed decently, but I still apply some pressure when cutting.


Instead of oil threads now we have a technique thread starting. Lol

Have seen many people cook a saw due to a.dull chain and really dawging the saw in, and the saw is screaming lol

I agree 100%. I keep my chains good and sharp but use my dogs as more of a pivot point on large logs.

I can assure you guys my clutch is not slippping backing off the throttle some,millimg i can get over 10k in the pass ,but at 7k it spits out the wood nice and smooth with a nice finish ,i have a tach i can view in the cut so can see where i am at in the pass

You're not going to over rev a saw unless you dead stick it out of the wood .Even then unless something is terribly wrong with it,it would take more than a few short bursts .
