It was a tricky tree, had a 3/4” rope set at 60’ to compensate for side lean, it was leaning out over the canal and back away from the lay.

Those are always fun. What did you pull with? Pickup or mechanical advantage?

We tightened the rope with a prussick and come along and captured that with a porta wrap, jacked it over with wedges for back up, and the groundie let go of the rope after it was committed and let it run thru the porta wrap. Rope was just there to keep
It from breaking off sideways, the silvey jack did all the heavy lifting

The notch you put in your face on the uphill side to let the fibers bend and hold on longer. Maybe you call it something else

Ok. Yeah we call them a draw notch. The fact that you spotted it tells me you have been or are a timber faller

I’m a climber for a tree service in southern Oregon. But our company does small scale logging and I have to pretend I’m a cutter those days haha. I do have some friends who are fallers that I learn from

Right on. You’re up near a buddy of mine. Can’t remember the name of his town, some unpronounceable name. I’ll get back to you on that he’s always into meeting new climbing friends. Ok I’m pulling the plug for tonight. Nice chatting with you.

Edit - That is the end of the Gasquet side than about a 6 mile section that was never completed running thru tribal lands then back to pavement down to Orleans.
