The first picture of a mandrel I ever saw was made of walnut .Sounds crazy perhaps but it must work .Good old grumpy D. Cahoon had it .He said it ran true .
Copesy used steel round stock as have others .I can't say I'd be a fan of it but some of those guys have cut down a lot of cylinders using that method .
Unfortunately I can't find the picture of the nylon over steel mandrel I have .It must be on the hard drive of my crashed computer because its not on the 4TB Blackwater backup remote I have nor is it on this computer .

The price of buying it with the dro or adding it later was pretty much a wash.

From what I understand Grizzly doesn't offer it as an upgrade kit though. There's a few things that are machined differently for the dro lathes I guess.

There's plenty of options out there to add it to any machine but it's just one less headache to buy one already set up.

Doing good been busy....it took me a bit to find that last bit of snap in that saw .....just loaded a ms361 video too ...that little dude be rolling , still kinda fat in video
