The ‘ring test’ should be a basic step when mounting any grinding wheel.

I had a small (4”) grinding wheel explode once, when I was complacent.

Blew clear across the room. Very lucky to not be in the path.

Thin wheels like we use on the chain grinders - sometimes come out of balance or center not true ( new out of packaging) and/or not flat. they can shatter due to vibration when spinning up to speed. Thicker wheels are simple enough to balance . Runout can be a little dicy to correct. 50 years of playing with machine tools, appendages still all intact- a little banged up here and there though. never stand /sit directly in front of grinder when starting up.( for that matter any thing that is going to start spinning at a fair rate of speed)

Do the Allen wrenches have to be the same size?

Are they supposed to be Metric or Imperial?

What if I don't have two?

Ya' know, variables!

You can even use ‘Ellen’ wrenches!

Actually, I was taught to use 2 screwdrivers: one through the arbor hole, and the plastic handle, on the other, to tap.

Of course, I use Phillips (or Philbert’s) screwdrivers! All of my screwdrivers are Philbert’s!
