I had inquired about the tractor being the price was too good to be true. Here is the email that I had received.

Hello again, as I told you in my first e-mail, I’m in the army and right now I am located at a military base in Virginia. The tractor is here with me.
We are training hard and getting ready for deployment.
Before leaving, I prearranged a deal with eBay Motors, so my presence isn't necessary. The delivery process will be managed by me. I think I can have it there at your home address within 2-3 working days. You will have 5 days to test and inspect the tractor prior to making any purchase. During the 5 days testing period I will not be getting any money.
I need to know if you are interested so I can ask eBay to send you the details regarding this deal. If you are interested, please reply with your contact info for eBay (full name, shipping address and phone number), so we can get the ball rolling. I will send your info to eBay and they will contact you and send you everything there is to know about how to close the transaction in the best terms possible for the both of us

How many red flags can we find?

In the Ebay community, they say that they do not have anything to do with any other market sites. The community had an example of a product that was almost word for word of this ad.

Very standard scam. I've seen this language a dozen times.

I don't normally post much on here outside of the classified ads but I figured I could pitch in on this thread as I too have had this exact same experience earlier in the week but not with a tractor. It was with a closed in utility trailer listed on craigslist for about half of what it was really worth in my opinion.

A few emails were exchanged then I mentioned I would like to see the trailer in person before committing to any deals, thats when it went south and I got practically the same email that @stretch5881 received.

Heres the email I received after asking to see it in person, he states the trailer is in North Dakota and ready to be shipped as he had a buyer back out after shipping... thats when I knew it was a legitimate scam. On top of I've been selling on eBay for close to 10 years and not one thing he's said was even remotely correct about eBay.

Email I received:

Thank you very much for getting back to me but I would like to clarify
some things first.I have the clear title and the bill of sale.
All the paperwork notarized by a legal attorney are ready to be transferred under new owner's name.
I also want to let you know that the price is firm, non negotiable $800.00.
I am selling the trailer at this price because my
wife passed away not long ago (she was very sick) and this trailer
brings me bad memories and that's the reason why I want to sell it
asap. Another reason for selling it is because I work in military and
right now I'm on a military base (814 Medical Detachment-Bismarck) on Bismarck,ND.
We are training and getting ready to leave the country.
The trailer is already at the shipping company Fargo, ND
ready for delivery because someone agreed to buy it,but in the end he
never got the loan. For this reason, the shipping is already paid for.
I will use e bay in this transaction for our protection. If you are
not aware of this program, you should know that it will allow you to
test and inspect the trailer before paying me.The inspection period
will be set to 7 days and I think that is enough time for you to make
a decision about the trailer . If you won`t like my trailer you notify
e bay and you send it back at my expense. But I assure you that won't
be the case.
If you want to continue the purchase, please reply with your full
name, delivery address, email and phone number so I can start the transaction
with e bay and ask them to send you the terms of this transaction. (
with no further obligation or fees).Thank you

Used be that you use a reverse image search on any images in the sales listing.
Just look for the same image being reused in other ads. "Recycled" images were a pretty good indicator of someone to avoid.
friggin "cdn" or content delivery networks seem to have about broken the image searches now though.

Any seller using a "stock photo" or "borrowing" one from someone elses listing tends to raise my suspicion as to accuracy of any item descriptions.
Usually some jackass with a ( "price is FIRM!" ) Snapper rear engine rider ("just needs a spark plug to run good" ) that's been re-listing it for the last three summers. lol

A scammer tried to sell a saw here once using a pic of a saw from the Chain Saw Guy . Like who hasn't seen that bench?

When I quit working on cars for a living I listed my big tool box on CL as it was really too big for where I was living at the time. I immediately got offers to buy it for asking price from like three different people claiming to be merchant mariners, who would arrange and pay for shipping to their vessel, if I would be so kind as to provide my bank account info so they could send payment.

Reminds me of the jeep my nephew wanted to look at.
It was posted on the northern Michigan craigslist
When emailed they didn't know where
We were located they obviously thought we were in Michigan.
And said the owner was away in the military
But we could buy it from a friend of his
With mailed money orders or western union.
they wouldn't even say what branch he was in lol
They made a mistake and said it was located in nitro wv which is 40 miles from us.
I said give me the addy and I'll look it over
Stunned they said
It's in a climate controlled locked up warehouse
*B-S.... I live here
It's a damn 30 year old jeep
We harassed them for week's
They pulled the ad.
