Ok si I don't have the nice one but we have found the problem thanks to Redbull!!!
My studs measure out at .85 not .945

661 with 660 cover, this is how I'm gonna run till I source the proper studs.

Studs on my 660 are .85 so must be .945's on the 661.
Sucks but it explains why mine are short and didn't seem right and another reason the front may have stripped.

Ryan, it sounds like you have 660 studs in your 661 if I am discerning all of this correctly. Have you been in contact with the seller to ask why that may be the case? I remember from the sale thread there may have been some parts swapping going on between a couple 661s he had, maybe for some reason, the studs got swapped out? Could be that he has the correct studs laying on a bench somewhere.

In any case, get yo' chit right, I wanna run that mofo to see if I "need" one.

Ha I'm just glad something is certain, wrong studs. Now let's see if the dealer ordered me the right ones, lol. Should know in a few days.
Redbull661 thanks for all the help, pm's and pics. Not sure I would have ever figured it out.
Oh and thanks for the proper part #!

Marc you can come by and run her anytime, well once I get her straightened out. I will never have my chit together.

Nah, you're gonna bring it to me. Remember, I've got 60 acres of tops and trunks and you have an empty dump trailer.............

Big t, that's what my buddy at Stihl said. He can't guarantee but he believes one is for the captive nuts and the other is for the standard.
Apparently in some areas, like a few members mentioned their is a new cover and it no longer has captive bar nuts.

Ughhhhhhhhhh

sure nuff....you can see they include the standard 0000 955 0801 bar nut in the pic. the 1138 stud probably goes with those.

Ok so I got the proper bar studs.

IMG_0465.JPG

Top is the captive bar nut. Middle is the shorter stud I have listed for the 660/661r
The longer stud is the part number on the bottom, this will work with standard bar nuts, and other covers.

So this is with a bar and they are tight. Still no thread protruding but the captive bar nuts grab early and their is plenty of threads on to be comfortable.

Once your 661 is straightened out you get this!

All smiles!!!

Thanks for all the help fellas, Rye.

Oh and feel free to make fun of the terrible chair I left. I back cut it at an angle as he has a barn to the left and a pad with some implements for his tractor to the right and he wasn't around to move them. I'm no pro that's for sure.

I won't make fun of you, and your hinge looks good from what I can see the picture, BUT you should definitely stop using that sloping back cut. Google "sloping back cut" or "farmer cut". You'll find lots of info, but what it boils down to is that a sloped cut like that does NOT help encourage a tree to fall the way you want it to. It also makes it so that any wedges you use to direct the fall will be less effective and prone to splitting the stump rather than lifting the tree. Also, people will continue to tell you it's a bad idea. Straight across is what you want.

Thank you sir.

Will do thanks for the tip.

Next year my son goes to school and we have a pro tree service guy in the department and I have already contacted him to see if I can go on some jobs with Him and help/learn. I've cut with him before and learned a lot but I have a long way to go.
