So, had a spare hour to clean and check the 181 over. Looks better than the ad suggested I think. Just won a bid on a 26" old Windsor replaceable tip bar to keep the vintage of this saw. Currently to tune it to idle I used a 15"... hahaaha.

I think it ticks over nicely. Need a bigger pull start handle as this thing snaps back a treat and to be honest it's pretty daunting to start it with no decomp.

Metal flag chain brake has a better mechanical feel than any of the plastic ones. Although ergonomically it is a bit naff in the hand.

After dismantling, it all seems OEM apart from a Tygon fuel tube and a 288 AM choke lever.

It sounds like a dirt bike!

Picked up a non runner 262xp too. This started by accident when I was testing the pull cord in the garage lol..

I built 4 372s and didn't trust the chinese 20170614_204903.jpg decomps so i bought these 6.00 ebay shipped.
Work perfect still hard enough to start that no one wants to borrow my saw's but if you know how to start a high comp saw it's cake lol
My inexperienced friends don't need ported saw's.

I've got a 288 non decomp new meteor and caber that's getting a d handle.
It's a pain to start.
I made the mistake of putting the tank handle between muh legs to start my 288 when I first got it...no decomp, never started one before. Man was that a shot to the bag. Never again

I've got a 281 in the shed, slightly newer model than a 181 .It does okay but I really don't use it much.I had to fix something on it,throttle linkage maybe but I didn't have any problems finding the parts . I can't remember if it has a brake or not, probably not .

And a few more.... Think it is pretty neato for it's age.

Snuck one in of my new line up of Husky's... No Stihl's for me anymore...
Fully rebuilt 372/362xp from the crank upwards, this 181se and my new project 262xp :pesas:

Your 181 doesn't look like it's had a very difficult life. Very nice, fits right in with the rest of your kids.

Yep! It looks very tidy. starts nice and easily too. Got my new OEM Husky handle, bit larger than the one on it so I can fit two more fingers on it. Might help with the snap back. Now to get the 3 snapped bolts out of the 262 top cover holes.. Not sure how as they are buried deep down the threads..
