Here’s something for everyone to debate about. I tore down another 2165. I’ve had great success with these saws. But after getting the bearings and seals out I noticed a hairline crack in the bottom of the seal seat. Pryed a bit with a pick and a decent sized chunk came out. (Might be why it lean seized)
I epoxied it last night and it set up nicely. I plan to make a sanding mandrel a little smaller than the seal seat ID and sand it close. Probably ad a bit of motoseal to the outer ring of the seal as well when I put it in. Anyone have constructive criticism or doubt in my method? Anyone done this before?

I don't think it's gonna stay long enough to drive the seal it. But....I could be wrong.
Yeah that’s my biggest fear. I guess worst case I have to split the case again. And I’m out a gasket and seal.

I've successfully welded seal lips back up when someone has attacked them with a screwdriver. I could probably doctor that up with a tig torch.

This young man can fix it. He can fix about anything.

Good morning Shaun.

Jb weld is pretty gooder stuff but I don’t expect that particular fix will work. Fortunately you got two great offers of help.

It might work since it's all the way through the bore, if it was just a edge chip I would expect the epoxy to heave off easily.

Another layer of the magic goo on the outside ought to do!
Another dab just might do ya!
In the modern world of epoxy's, there's little doubt of there being some available to repair this properly, especially when you get into industrial epoxy. I'm just not sure if this is the one or not.

I felt like I put excessive amounts already on the outside.
No question there's issue with the longevity of this repair. And from the looksies of it I'll have a graciously offered case half to swap out.
But with that said. I might clean up the seal seat, and pound in an old seal just to see if it holds or not. And then obviously report back to my findings with a seal installed and some torture picks and prods.

I wonder if adding some Magnesium or possibly Aluminium dust to the epoxy mix might help (file shavings)?
I've never tried it, but we used to do it on wood repairs (wood shavings).

Seeing that some industrial epoxy is made this way, I would say yes and I save a little bottle of clean grindings from new cylinders just for such shenanigans. :)

Put a seal in and it didn’t heave at all. Looks pretty good actually. I was very meticulous when it came to cleaning the seat and chamfering the entrance. Idk. I think it should be tested for testing purposes.
