Ol Boss was a pain in my ass when we first got him. He'd never been loose......lived about 1 1/2 years in a 6 x 6 cage. He was hard headed, and would sometimes take off after a calf for no reason I could see, and wouldn't stop no matter how loud I yelled. There were a few times that if I'd been carrying, I'd have shot him. Once I bought home a wild young heifer......rounded up the other young stuff I had and let it out into the group of em. Boss comes around the barn, and starts giving chase. I was sure I had lost her over a fence.

He's chill now......never makes me raise my voice to him.

Probably just finally calmed down after being cooped up for so long. Twitch is just about a year old, so dang smart he's stupid ,if that makes any sense lol. He gets along with the goats well though.

Our cattle/sheep dog breeds want to round up cattle/sheep by instinct....troof. Even if they have never been shown how to do it when given the chance off they'll go and start pushing stock around. Your dog coming from a small cage would think its in heaven being able to run around in big open spaces. When I worked on a 67,000acre cattle station a good dog was easily worth 3 men on bikes. All they wanted to do was WORK all day. One on the petrol tank and two clinging to the mudflap of your bike & off you went for a few days mustering.

For reasons unknown to me herd dogs have a natural protective instinct of their charges which includes people .I had a female German shepherd that would follow the kids when they were sledding in the winter and slow them down if she thought they were going too fast .My daughter has always been little and still is .She used to get so mad at the dog grabbing her snow suit to slow her down when she was three .

The bastard
a feral tomcat found in the mountains
Has killed everything that walks or crawls
On my land.
20190520_200559.jpghas beaten the *s-word out of trip on many occasions.
Also a husky,beagles,yorkie,jack russell,black lab,yellow lab
He's been undefeated.
But a pack of two akitas and a german Sheppard
Has killed another neighbors dog
And other neighbors at least 10 cat's and 41 chickens and a pet rabbit
Have been killed we know about.
So I keep him inside until
The pack of dog's is dealt with.
