I just cut a few trees here and there to stay warm. I help people out after trees fall from natural disasters, etc.
I got hired by a guy to clear-cut 1.5-2 acres of trees for the Forestry Management Plan. Last clear cut 80 years ago according to record and the Arborist. He called 4 tree companies. They came, looked at it and never contacted him back. I cut down trees for 3 days a week for about 3 plus months. It was the hardest work I've done in a while.
I cut about 125 trees down. It was hilly and rocky and heavily wooded. Couldn't get any equipment in there for the price of the job. 99 percent of the trees went where I wanted them to go. I had a couple that I completely missed on. I was out there alone. I was fortunate. No real injuries. No equipment damaged.
Logging sure is dangerous hard work...[emoji106][emoji631][emoji482]

How about the 462 compared to a 372?

The 462 is a hair faster, a bit more torque, less vibes, easier starting and better on fuel. The OE 372 feels a bit lighter and more nimble, is easier to work on, and has a solid track record. The Xtorq 372 is in middle concerning speed, torque, vibes and fuel efficiency. It feels heavier than both the 462 and OE 372

If you get the chance to try one, I recommend it highly! I can walk you through a few easy mods at home that help.

I have 24 on my 044 12mm and a 28 if I have a big tree. Would the 462 do good with an occasional 28. talking modern saws I know a 461 would handle a 28 all day long. If I get a 462 it would wear a 24 all the time unless a 28 was occasionally needed. Would I need to keep the 044 12mm it has a mild porting and good torque

I think most who own a 462 would choose it over a 044 , I am building a 440/460 hybrid for the fun of it, but I honestly think for my use the 462 will be my "Go to" saw, again I am not a logger, so I only cut wood for heating my house, most of it is dead standing, or down already. I think w light mods it would pull a 28" occasionally just fine. I really think I could use the 462 to do 99% of my needs, the mtronic has been really nice so far and I love that the Stihl can be reset without going back to a dealer, my saws set longer then others and temps are very different from each time I may use it. I can't speak to everyday use.

Thanks for the input. I have 200 acres about 100 hardwood 60 pine 40 cleared. I just cut firewood off the property and downed trees also maintaining tree lines. I’ll have to give the 462 a try

i think what dave was trying to say is that cutting trees doesnt make one a “logger”, and neither does working for one. i have no doubt @huskyboy has tree cutting skills ill never have (and full respect to guys who run a saw all day), but there are tree guys who arent loggers. maybe im wrong, not tryin to put words in daves mouth, but thats my .02. flame on.

For what it’s worth Mason is in the woods every day, working alongside a processor and skidder, cutting trees for his bosses logging business. If we’re getting all technical about what a logger is, I’d say he is one, or at least an apprentice to become one. We all have to start somewhere. He’s got my respect when it comes to what he does every day.

Does mason own the equipment, make the bids, etc. from what I can tell mason is a feller... possibly part timer judging by the amount of time he is spending on here. Just 2 pennies from a feller who has put 10k+ trees on the ground. I'm no logger. Can ya dig?
