I weld and repair those all the time. $30 + shipping. You'll need to split the case and strip down to just the case side so I can clean, and bead blast for welding prep.

A heli-coil will hold fine on the lower spike. In fact a properly installed heli-coil is stronger than the original threads. I can install one if you want me to weld and re-machine the upper mount.

I think this was a 461 case I repaired.

I repaired the lower spike hole on a few 461s by drilling it larger and inserting a lock nut like used on the top bolt.

I was gluing them in with Loctite PL Premium, and they were holding up just fine the last time I checked. Just give it two days to dry, lightly sand the surfaces, and dampen them with a wet Q Tip before gluing.

I'll bet you could fix & re drill, and file to shape that top hole with it also.

Get some epoxy putty on the job, I've just repaired a trashed cylinder exhaust flange with itIMG_3842.JPG

This is before clean up and flattening it, but the putty has been drilled and re-tapped after the muffler had a log dropped on it and snapped he bolts out of the cylinder. The saw is back together and I've been hammering it all week, works a treat.

I tried it for the bolt on the brake flag on a 026, it wouldn't hold the fine threads. There are some different inserts similar to helicoils that may work better. I may try to weld up my case half before I change halves. I was told today it was only a 15 minute job! I guess for a monkey fisted guru it is! If I get the right rods, I will send a few to you if you want to try or have someone try. Pretty sure it has to be TIGed up and magnesium is a pain to weld. I would try Quicksteel first, then you can drill it out and re-tap or put a helicoil in if needed.
Yes sir, if you get some rods and want to part with just a few please let me know.... I was talking to my good buddy (who just lives a few houses down) last night and I showed him the case with the broke out hole....he said I need to get some rods so he can try to weld up whatever I need in the future..... I have some older useless saws that I will let him practice on....and yes he said it has to be tig welded....

I will probably be letting scarr58 do this one, but I would like to get a few rods for "future" projects......lord knows my garage looks like a damn Stihl cemetery right now LOL!!!!!!!

I weld cylinders all the time too. Exhaust flanges and a lot of spark plug holes.
