Installing a CROSS PERFORMANCE cylinder Kit for my Stihl 084.

So now i can turn her over freely by hand or by Pull start, i get puffs of smoke from the muffler, but she won't start up. I'm thinking maybe i flooded her, so im going to let her sit for a while and try again later.

Here's a picture of the carb and linkage. I double checked, with the pictures i took from before the tear down and the pictures in the manual. This is with her set to hot start. I also reset the carb to the factory defaults. One turn out on both tiny screws. The intention was to tune her after i got her running. That's going to be hard to do if i cant get her started again.

If the piston was stuck to the point it wouldn't turn over I would pull the jug off to see what is going on. Looking through the exhaust port can only tell you so much, there is the rest of piston and ring to look at in the jug. I can understand not wanting to do that though, been in the same situation. Only way to know fully what is going on is to look at everything inside to make sure it's ok to use further. (And post pics here so we can see what is going on).

When you turn the flywheel over by hand is there any resistance at a certain point more than the rest of the time your turning it? Make sure to rotate the flywheel over a full rotation or more.

Edit: reading through this thread again, can you test compression? That would be the only other thing I can think of to do before pulling the jug.

Ive decided to pull the top end, but im going to do it in the morning, when im not so frustrated/ have more time and daylight.

Chris,
On the "old" cyl...can you feel "ridges" as you roll a finger nail across those vertical "streaks" in the cyl wall on the exhaust side ?
Same for the matching exhaust side of the "old" piston.

and right now do you have a heavy smell of fuel coming from the carb area ?
if its flooded you'll smell it pretty strong. Take the plug out and give it a few pulls and see if you get some mix spurting out at ya.

Check the clearance between flywheel and coil. Basically check all bearings and where things spin for something that came adrift.
I am suss about the amount of sook at the decomp button too!

Check that you didn't shear the flywheel key and put it out of time, it won't start like that.
Also make sure I didn't sneak into your garage and pull off the impulse line and throw it under your bench while you weren't looking.

Well here's another fine mess I got myself into. I pulled the top end off of the saw and found a disaster. It looks like something came off inside possibly part of the bottom of the piston and got itself wedged between the piston and the cylinder completely destroying the piston and making a mess of the inside of the cylinder. At first I thought it might have been part of the Rings but after checking the Rings they're all intact and there.so something else has to be the culprit.
