Different situations and different circumstances call for different methods ,Most "hobby" sawyers are just salvaging usable lumber from what would otherwise be firewood .So in that case a chainsaw mill might work best .Others might buy a horizontal portable bandsaw and others might make their own .Still others might get that old rusty Foley-Belsaw circle mill that belonged to their grand dad refurbished and belt drive it with a Farmall model M and cut lumber to a fair-thee well . In all this the end results are all the same .
