So, i got myself a log truck load delivered, and cut it up in a day.
Was mid way through a log about 14" dia with the 562, and felt a very mild vibration, so i stopped, and pulled the saw out of the cut. This is what i found.
It was a 68 drive link chain, and i counted 15 cutters completely missing. It was pretty much perfect before the cut.
I have to assume whatever metal was in the log was perfectly placed to catch the edge of the right side cutters. This happen to anyone else before?

All the time due to my line of work. I figure one chain per job when clearing old fence rows.

I hate when I'm in any old fence line around the farm. It really helps now that I have the OWB and a wood splitter that will handle 50".

Wow I've lost a couple on electric fence insulators i didn't see but not that many at once. Im going to try some of that cheap upstart chain off amazon to cut several dozen large dead ash on a fenced property line.

I hit an embedded horseshoe that was totally overgrown in a maple crotch, just lost 3 cutters completely and damaged 10 more, chain was toss away toast. I burned the wood the horseshoe was in and retrieved it, keep it at my camp as a reminder.

I cut the same log 18 inches away from the metal cut, in both directions, and hit nothing (accidentally actually, I intended to abandon the log).
So now I have a 36 inch piece half cut. I'm curious what's inside.

Funny how they're all off on one side too, must've just caught the edge of whatever it is.
Looks like it even lowered the rakers on that side, pretty crazy...

Have hit metal several times, always messes up the chain, but never lost that many cutters.

Most recent was a nail in a Hard Maple tree when I was doing the notch. Was able to save that chain, but the cutters looked funky! Luckily, the corners were all still there, so it functioned OK.

Removed a 40" post oak Monday, to date it had the most metal of any tree I've ever removed, had nails all up in the tops and throughout the trunk. Ruined a chain on a Ms150t 550xp ps421 dolmar and a 115dl chain on my 390xp. and this was from a bucket truck, I'm thinking someone sabotaged the tree at some point in its life their were no signs of an old tree house in it. oh well it's a part of it...
