Are you attending this one?
I wish! Between settling my dads estate and trying to fit 4 weeks of work into what little remains of my season I’m working 7 days a week right now. Woulda been cool to smoke a bowl with you bud.😕

30"ish dead standing Ash that was rotted off just below ground level not a single root left, as soon as the tree started to move it went straight sideways and smooshed my backup saw sitting 30ish feet away.
It happens to the best of us. 28ish” red oak got this one. Ground was sandy and soft or it would have been much worse. I’m hoping the cylinder survived.🤷‍♂️IMG_4457.jpegIMG_4458.jpegIMG_4460.jpeg

Dang!

We generally push cautiously and lightly on dead trees to assess their root/ground integrity, having seen far too many dead pecker-poles go over at the lightest breeze or weight of a bird.

Seen a few living oaks and madrones uproot as well from force/momentum of the fall.

Be glad it was the saw and not a body.

I was not judging just wondering. I have seen some really odd ways of smashing saws and done one myself. I was chisel plowing a hay field one night and there was a small tree down. I went back up to the house and grabbed a Husky 335 top handle. I cut the tree up and put the saw back in the cab. Well I was bouncing across plowed ground and the cab door swings open. The saw goes out and the duals smoosh it.

The reason I asked about the 572 is because last winter my brother told me he had smashed one. Apparently he was swinging trees with the excavator and misjudged where he dropped one. He has still not brought me the saw so I do not know the damage. He had a Stihl 360 he left on the dozer years ago and it fell off but I was able to get it back up and going.

This is my first smooshed saw in 50yrs of cutting, I have had saws pinch and roll off the stump, fall out of the cab of skidders etc etc but always managed to get lucky and avoided a smooshed saw. Ordered a new 572XPG today and will salvage what few parts I can from the smooshed one and move on.

I had set a bull rope about 30ft up and just started to take up the slack before any back cut was even started. Yes I was grateful it was only a saw that was smooshed.
