These Hyway closed port top end kits have Very loose squish. I just mocked mine up without a gasket and got .055". That coupled with less than top notch piston rings could very well give you low compression.
Wow that's loose buddy.
Where is the thread that you had the video of the 55 you had done the work on. What's the thread title, and is it here or "there".
Thanks.
You should post that video here so they can see what one does with a bit of work.
I just need to do the cab and lines and my first closed port will be ready. The second will need the same as well as a brake, since I've made a third my parts saw.

The OTC 5606 gauge is the company that makes Snap-on their compression gauge.
I had a cheap Sears one that would only show like 140 lbs on my masterminded 262.
The OTC gauge shows the saw at about 230 PSI which is where it should be.

Love the OTC gauage it can be had from Amazon for about $65.
I'm hoping I never need to buy another one which makes it worth the investment.

I'm putting a 51 together that I have an open port 55 OEM top end and piston for. Same thing -- new bearings and seals, fuel line, clutch bearing, all gaskets, impulse grommet. It has the older walbro non EPA carb I believe. Modified the intake to add heli coils to avoid the self tapping screws that mount the carb onto the intake to avoid stripping the plastic. I didn't replace the worm gear drive (brass or bronze goes on the crankshaft) it's like the older 262 style where it runs the oiler all the time even when clutch not turning. All appears to be in great shape so no need to replace.

Hopefully assembling a week from Saturday. Here's a couple videos I made showing the intake mod and going through all of the parts. I've since received all of the new parts since making the video and can't wait to get the cylinder and piston installed and everything back together.

I just saw in my video the clutch cover on mine has the same melt issue yours does. Looks like a trend with these saws!
