What is the difference between the 2 nylon mesh OEM air filters for a 357xp? One is labeled #44 and one is #80. Was thinking about these for my 37xp that is at Mastermind right now and a 346xp that will be going there is December. The 346 will be getting the 357 intake and a 199.

I have a 357xp that I deleted the base gasket and muffler modded that has a new flocked air filter. Mastermind will be sending me a EL42 modded for that.

Thanks,
Dan

Someone correct me if im wrong, but im assuming they are 44micron, and 80 micron filters refering to the filtering capacity. The 44 should have tighter nylon mesh, and likely a tad less flow. Probably used for cutting dry, punky wood and around dry clay and silty conditions. As previously mentioned, this is a total educated quess. Hopfully someone can chime in and confirm im not a moron!

You shouldn't use the 80 micron filter unless you will be cutting in heavy rain or snow. You won't be happy with the 44 micron filter either. It will let a lot of fines through still. The best filtration of your three options will be the felt filter. My 357xp had the same mods yours does an it didn't care what filter it was wearing. It always kicked ass.

I know I'm Grave digging bring this one back.
One of my saws J-Red 2149 has worn a mesh filter since new where as my other
J-Red saws are all wearing flock.
Upon general inspection, (Pulling Muffler) the 2149 definitely shows more wear then the others.
As stated before Mesh is for winter when cutting snow laden conifers & your out there looking like a Snowman cause with every tree you fell, when they go down you look like your standing in a Blizzard.

That’s great info to support the recommendations in this thread. Case closed for sure... Thanks for posting
