Figured I’d make a thread of my own instead of hogging up the Husqvarna thread. For those new to my endeavor:

I recently purchased a lot with 365/372/281/288/385/394 parts of all sorts. I ended up buying an Ultrasonic cleaner (Central Machinery 6L from Harbor freight) to clean up the parts. That has been a fun experience of its own. As of now it’s mostly 385/394 parts so hopefully I can make one of each.

I will update as I go. I still may look into finding someone who can weld magnesium, as I have some broken cases/clutch covers that JB weld won’t be able to do the job on.

I also purchased 2 different types of plastic welders to learn that skill to hopefully salvage some of the broken plastics

What’s the cause of the circle? I have one that looks the same. I assumed someone ran the saw with no bar on it.

What’s the cause of the circle?

The crud not getting cleaned out, the clutch spins at high speeds and moves the crud acting like sand paper on the metal, eventually wearing through the clutch cover or inadvertently creating ventilated louvers.

Or, could be a washer or something not to spec was used that slightly pushed out the clutch causing it to rub directly on the metal.

Yes so that was the first thing I put in the USC. I didn’t do a good enough job on the outside to get crud off, and I thought it’d take the burnt carbon off. Not with the dawn dish soap solution. Next I gotta look up how to get that off and hone the cylinders. I have I think 5 or 6 to do. Scoring don’t look bad on this 394 mahle cylinder

SeaFoam takes carbon off really well. I use it on pistons and cylinders both. I use a scotchbright pad to work it in.

Do not hone a saw cylinder without a lot of experience!
Find Randy, Mastermind’s vid on removing transfer and go that route.

I’ve not had good results with carbon removal with Seafoam. How long are you letting it soak?

Sometimes I let it sit 10 minutes, I have best results when I massage the carbon with scotchbright pad and SeaFoam. If I have a really stubborn spot I might use my Dremmel and brass wheel carefully.

That’s why I’m here. I would’ve never known. I’ll pick up some seafoam and scotchbright and watch the video. The advice is greatly appreciated
