I wonder what the design idea is behind the 2mm shorter rod? It would cause shorter dwell time at bdc and tdc, but what other effect?

Maybe. The timing on these saws from the factory are actually pretty good so I am not gonna touch it. If anything I could widen it a pretty good amount and maybe give the intake a little more area. I don’t know yet.
I already did some lower transfer work. That lip was freaking huge so I had to make the lowers a bit larger from what they used to be. Plus, the width of the lowers were not the same. the right side was MAYBE .040” wider than the left.

I think it was just to make it shorter, more compact.

I heard from an old dealer way back these saws as designed were too close to the 262. They detuned it by restricting the air filter.elbow and maybe something else.

Nothing proprietary in this one. Just regular 6202C3. Gotta love 2-series

I believe it's the 254, 257 and 262. I could be wrong

The 261 is apart of this chassis as well. And you are absolutely right.
