I recently tore down four Husky 435's and found that all four cylinders had 41mm bores. According to Acres, the 435 should have a 39mm bore and the 440 should actually be the one having the 41mm bore. I believe all four 435's were unmodified and had the OEM cylinder with 5444055 in the casting. Is Acres wrong or did Husky stop using the smaller bore cylinder on these two models?

Thanks for the help,
Barry

Every 435 I ever touched had the 41mm bore. Never seen any Husqvarna service data to support a 39mm bore. Acres has a lot of incorrect information but there is a literal chit ton of information on his site so there is a margin of error. His site is also more geared to vintage saws.

Interesting, then a 435 has the same displacement as a 440 - do they play games with the transfers to make the 440 slightly more powerful? Husky maintains a different cylinder/piston assembly for each of them in the IPL's but I now see that the only difference in the components is the cylinder.

Understood about the Acres site. All Husky cylinder I've seen there are listed as chrome plated but most are actually Nikasil.

I believe at some point I had read that the 435 has a dished or shorter pin height piston vs the 440 to reduce power. I've never been inside a 435, only a couple 440's though.

I thought the 435 had a dished piston as well

The four 435's I tore down all had flat top pistons. In the IPL's, the piston assembly part number is the same for the 435 and 440. The cylinder by itself is not given a number, instead it's included in a piston/cylinder assembly. However everything else in the assembly is given a separate part number (except the pin) and the part numbers are identical between the 435 and 440 assemblies. Since the cylinder is the only thing left, I felt it must provide the difference between the two models.

I guess I'll have to look closer at a 440 piston/cylinder assembly the next time I've got one.

Post up some pics. Maybe the chamber is smaller
