The 372 kit is for the XT, as that's the saw that is still being produced for North America. Maybe a half inch taller to clear the higher XT top cover. No problem putting it on an older saw. But using an original handle on an XT is a tight fit and your knuckles may be touching the top cover.

On the Jonsered question, Joe is correct concerning the 2171/2172 as they use different molds for the tanks. But the 390/385 handle should fit the 2186/2188 as those tank castings are the same. But then the handle angle is different than the angle of the brake handle and it's dopey looking.

Just wondering here if maybe Jonsered came out with similar kits? I'll check when I get to the store a little later.

These wraps make all the difference to me.
I cut mostly dead ash along fence line's to save the fences the dead ash are snapping breaking wire and post's.
I'm a lefty anyway but with these i can maneuver where i need to be without getting tangled up in barb wire.
To me at least it makes life much easier.20170522_162650.jpg

Interesting that someone actually has a practical reason for wanting a wrap, cause I'm betting most of this is about the "west coast" look. In what way do you actually use the back side of that handle?

Being left eye and hand dominant it's far easier for control especially when blocking i can do it right handed as well just more comfortable left.
Right hand on the right side of the top of the wrap.
Similar to blade right and blade left circular saw's
I was born wrong handed my teacher said one time lol
I like the wraps also when refilling
It make it easier i think.20170522_160852.jpg

I have used it felling when the circumstances require I make my back cut from the right side of the tree and I don't want to cut with the top of the bar. It's not something that happens alot, but I like having it.

But besides that situation, I admit that I just think they are cool too.

Being a cheap ass
I wasn't going to pay 100.00 plus hardware for the echo 620 full wrap kit.
I've got my bailey's 29.99 free ship special lol.
Modified a 372 wrap for my ported 590.
It will pull a 24 great but it's fun
As hell to run a 16 inch on it.20170614_204750.jpg 20170614_204816.jpg

I haven't found a need for a wrap in my cutting situations, felling or other wise. In fact, I find that a wrap is a pain in the crack when I'm cutting a large knot off of a log. Keeps me from getting the clutch side right up against the trunk for a good flush cut. That and if I switch my operating grip my left hand is an idiot...lol!

They look cool, but I'll probably never use one.

There have been times when I really would have liked having the wrap handle for safer positioning in certain falling situations. On a hill side, one place to send the tree, one place to stand to make the cut and had to make due cutting lefty with the right hand across the saw to the top handle. Would have been much more comfortable with a wrap. Also have a friend who is lefty and cuts as such. Can't get him to cut right handed and it always leaves him cutting right behind the saw despite my protests of just how dangerous it is. God forbid it ever kicks back because it will end up right in his face. He needs a wrap handle to be safer.

I just use the wrap side as my distance off the ground for stumping
:risas3::risas3::risas3::risas3:

Seriousley, I do use it for that, but I also find that some of the more challenging felling tasks require awkward positioning. The wrap gives options that a 1/2 cant offer.

I dont like the real big dogs though ............... the bark on the trees in my areas dont get thick enough to need them

I know a little about cutting on hillsides lol
I do very little flat ground cutting.
I think your friend would really like the full wrap.
Has he used one before.
I cut over 20 yrs before using wraps
They make it much easier and safer for me.
Never could find a good 288 full wrap most of my saws are half wrap.
I wish someone would make a 288 fullwrap kit.
The Chinese half wraps have been good i used no problem.

I didn't like those ones that came with the kits at first.
But since cutting a lot of dead ash with shedding bark.
I can get a good bite with them
They do need loctite though
They came loose twice.
