I can't really say - it's been years since I've sold a saw. I see there are brand new Mark II's on eBay for $900.00, which likely means you would get around half (or just over) that price for a used one. Going on the information you've presented, I would say your best bet is to part it out.
If he wants to keep it for himself and run it, a $200 bottom end is a viable option imho compared to buying a new saw and have a good one when he's done. For flipping, I think you are correct it's going to be hard to make a dollar on this type of thing.
Especially if it's a onetime type of deal, by the time you buy a puller, sealed bearings, gaskets etc. you will have as much if not more than buying a loaded case. Also trying to find all the individual parts from Husqvarna has been shaky at best lately.

How many times have you held off buying a tool for a "one time" job and then on the 4th time you wished you had bought the tool already. 🤣 I know this was the case with the tool I got from Mattyo, took me four saws...now when it comes to that part of the build, it goes so much faster for me. It might be a bit of a loss to buy the tool this time, but who knows how many other 5-series saws with stuffers will come across his way in the future.

Ar talking about a fella on here that makes a puller or bearing installing tool??

Someone mentioned that to me here a while back…

Usually, I never hold back on buying special tools, I have tons of them, and they pay for themselves, the 562xp is in a different boat with its price point.
Can't count how many times the new case set was still a better deal when you add rebuild time into the equation, in fact last time I went to buy one I couldn't find it nor the parts to rebuild either, so I bought yet another loaded case. Almost seems as if we're being steered in this direction.

Damn so you buy a completed case put together for them??

How much are they and where do you get them from?

You can google "Husqvarna 562 short block" and some options come up, quick look shows about $250, but there might be some better deals if you look some more.

I can see that happening with some of the more niche saws...bummer that you have to go the loaded case route, but good to hear at least you can get the parts that way if needed. I worked on someone else's 562 and it had a carb issue...my mouth fell open at the $125 cost for a new carb for that saw.

I don’t know how far you got into the 562 but have you ever seen the stuffers in them….i got one the other day and one of those stuffers has some movement, otherwise wise bears seem ok….IM kinda stuck with the saw now and don’t know what do do I wanted to fix it up and keep it but I don’t want to get upside down money wise in it may have to just paste it out…

I have rebuilt a couple 562’s, but in the end I got factory shortblocks. Both times I rebuilt them, the bearings failed in less than five hours. If you need a crankcase splitter, I could sell you mine.
How much do they run, and does it only split husky’s???

Not sure how much they run, but there are specific splitters for Husqvarna 5-series saws that have crank stuffers. The typical splitter has a bit that straddles the crank inside, but with stuffers they get in the way and another type of splitter is needed.

The OEM pistons used to be flat top but are now changed to a dished piston to reduce compression and hopefully lengthen engine life.

The pre-mark II 562 ran a flat-top piston that is 46mm. There are some aftermarket pop-up pistons, but I wouldn't recommend them.

Are they not necessary because they create more/too much compression and increase wear on the saw or just unnecessary?
Pop-ups can increase secondary compression, but they can also disrupt scavenging. I think they are unnecessary.
