If he wants to keep it for himself and run it, a $200 bottom end is a viable option imho compared to buying a new saw and have a good one when he's done. For flipping, I think you are correct it's going to be hard to make a dollar on this type of thing.I can't really say - it's been years since I've sold a saw. I see there are brand new Mark II's on eBay for $900.00, which likely means you would get around half (or just over) that price for a used one. Going on the information you've presented, I would say your best bet is to part it out.
Especially if it's a onetime type of deal, by the time you buy a puller, sealed bearings, gaskets etc. you will have as much if not more than buying a loaded case. Also trying to find all the individual parts from Husqvarna has been shaky at best lately.
