Hi Folks.

I am a Stihl boy but am keeping a really nice 2010 372xp I picked up in a pile of dead loggers saws for $30 each.
All that was wrong was the 2 front screws came loose on the cylinder and the cylinder lost its seal.

The previous owner said he didn't have it long and it just stopped one day, and in the shed it had sat since.
Stripped, cleaned and reassembled in one afternoon and it runs perfectly.

It just needs a new muffler, with more openings!

Now, for my questions.

Firstly I am assuming it is an EPA model as it has limiters on the carb screws and a 2 ring piston. It also has a blue coil when all the other older saws I have seen in this series have black coils.

In the pile of parts that came in a box with all the saws there was an older pre EPA 372 and a 371 which had been stripped of parts to keep other saws running.

I have gathered up enough bits and ordered others to get the parts 372 running but I am left with some 371 bits, including a very nice OEM cylinder, carb, black coil etc.

Considering I want performance from the saw..........

1. Is the blue coil a limited coil and would I be better off with one of the older black coils?
2. Without timing the 371 and EPA 372 jugs (which I will do), is one of them preferable by those in the know?
3. should I keep the limited carb on it with the limiters removed or should I use the older 371 carb?

If it was a Stihl I would likely keep the newer Cylinder, buy a single ring 371 meteor piston for it and fit the older carb and coil, but I dont know husky's so well yet.

Should be a fun little saw to get running nice.

Blue coil is limited, black is unlimited. As far as carbs go you will have to look at the model and spec of the carb, they could very well be the same. The limiters do need to go though. The 372 cylinder SHOULD have better porting from the factory than the 371, but the single ring piston from a 371 in the 372 cylinder would be a plus.

Sweet!
Will swap the blue evil one for the black one, and the EPA carb for the non EPA 371 carb.
Will put a single ring 371 piston it it too.
just cut the limiters. Most of mine doesnt have limiters have not checked my 05, but that one has blue coil.
Blue coils are marked where the limit are, and if I remember correct the blue 346 NE coil has higher rev vs 372 blue coil.
The nice with Husky 3xx serie is that most of the coils can be used on other 3xx serie, only difference is the coil wire lenght.

Coil list: 334, 335, 336, 338, 339, 340, 345, 346, 350, 351, 353, 357, 359, 362, 365, 371, 372, 385, 390, 455, 460, 570, 575, 576

Since Husky 3xx serie saws and JReds 21xx serie saws are pretty much the same you have lots of easy parts to get. @mdavlee knows more then me when it goes to Husky vs JRed parts

Blue 372 coil should be marked 13.3K where a blue 346 coil are 14.1K.

If you start porting your cylinder, it won't be hard to bang that thing off the rev limiter as you are trying to tune it in when running the blue coil. Get the black coil in there if you plan to mod it. My modded and ported 372XPW will spool over 14.4k when tuning it for peak performance.

Since you plan to build a performer, you should most definitely remove the limiters on your jets. The engine is going to want to eat more than EPA limited carbs can feed it.

it's a question of time, your already doomed since you have started to get those 372's.
Just wait until you have one 346/550 in your hands....and the nice 357......and not to forget the sweet 560/562....
We will see :-)

They also made an epa version of the 371. Which carbs are in question here? HD12 on both?
The 371 has a HD 6
The older 372 has a HD 6b
The EPA 372 has a HD 123 (I think, hard to ser without removing it.

The blue coil is 13300 limited.

Which carb would be best?
