Husky 350 chain tensioning trouble

How’s it going everyone, hope all is well! Ok, I have a 350 husky that I can get the chain tensioned how I like it. Then when I tighten the bar nuts down the chain is then way way too tight. What is happening that I am missing??? Thanks!

The adjuster pin that goes in the hole is tapered. They all do it, but some are worse than others. It usually takes a few tries to end up with the perfect tension

I don't know if it would help you or not. But I get a more consistent chain adjustment holding the rear of the saw up to rest on the tip of the bar when tightening the chain.

That's a good tip. I'll try it next time on one of my side tensioner saws. I'm used to holding the bar tip up because I started out with a front tensioner saw.

I raise the bar tip with my left hand. Still a trial and error.

One hot tip on the 350s.... I use a 455 rancher clutch cover. They have an integral tensioner that is much easier to use. A nice upgrade from the crappy 350 stock tensioner.

Yup, I bought 9 of those when they were cheap online, then they raised the price.
All my 350, 346, 357 & 359s wear them.
