Ik that the oem 346 kit is going to be the best plan but he is going to be looking for total cost because he doesn't have a lot or money. So that being said I'll give him a couple options including oem. But I'm certain Ik what he will say

Be sure to factor in labor, OEM kits are plug and play, almost ALL aftermarket kits require cleanup for longevity or even to be usable.

What's the longevity like?

I haven't put more than a few tanks through them so really can't say other than none have exploded, yet...
I have just way too many saws to use so very few see a lot of trigger time, particularly the non ported ones.

That was the first thing I told myself, fully knowing that they would require some cleanup time.

I was able to take a 45mm 350 cylinder and clean it up using the Mastermind/Treemonkey sanding method and bought a hyway 45mm piston, I think it was for a 353, and it turned out great for cheap!

I also had a 44mm cylinder and piston that were still good on one and I did a base gasket delete and muffler mod and that worked great too!

O.E.M. 346 top ends are cheap, the better AM cylinders cost just as much.

Why would you consider anything less than OEM for that price?
totally agree!!
Them 346p&c has gotten so cheap that its actually pointless to buy just the piston.
Same with the 550 p&c!

This is what happens when you have a saw that is now deemed surplus but you want it none the less.. You take the 44mm cylinder (that you thought was oem 346xp from the crappy pictures) and you Case match the transfer lowers to the case. Smooth out all flaws to maximise flow and angle the upper of the open transfers towards the intake. Whop on a meteor and caber ring. Optimise the piston skirt for transfer flow. Drop the gasket and open the muffler out some more. Timing advance and hahahahaha. This thing is hilariously good for what it is. Which is a small 50cc saw. Hahahahaha

Hopefully she's not injured too bad! I will ask him what he wants to do when I see him in the morning. Thanks for the offer.
