This is probably the largest I've seen. 5 years down and drying. It's it worth anything? Is the dry burl even useable?

Mill it up and see! Only way to find out...oh and then show us some pics, I bet it's good looking stuff. Even if it's punky the slabs can be stabilized with acrylic......

I don't own a mill, just a firewood cutter. I'd like to see it go to someone who can use it if the wood is useable. That's why I'm asking here, to find out how to best remove it and see if anyone would possibly want it.

Where abouts you located in ks? I'm in South of Fort Scott a few miles. I could mill it up for ya or take it off your hands if ya don't need it. Maybe trade ya something you could use for it if it good still....

I'm in Manhattan. If be open to swapping for it, or just give it to you as long as you post pictures of any work and finished product. My father and grandfather were woodworkers, unfortunately I didn't inherit that talent. I work with metal, but love wood products made by hand.

Yep. Cut it up into large squares, then send it to me, lol!

Before you cut it up, if possible blast all the bark off it with a "strong" high pressure water blaster/cleaner.

This will reveal if it has any fissures/cracks in it before you cut it up.

To update this I'll finally be getting back out to this property next weekend and dragging this big boy home. Stay tuned.

Very cool burl, wish I was close enough to come get it. I found some oak burl on our neighbors property too. It's the biggest weirdest thing I've ever seen! Wish I stood next to it in the picture for reference. The top of the burl about 6' tall. What ya think?

Mill it, dry it and sell it to people that make stuff like knives and such.

I turn bowls, but I find my own burls...;).

That would be a nice burl for some veneer. You could cut a few hunks off of it, but I like to do burl accents personally. Here's a jewelry box top I did long ago for my daughter our of simple cove moulding and a burl slice.
