I thought of the way a regular Stihl guide has that pressed end recess and how the end would fit in that

Then I tried picturing how a guide for square filing would have to look and that escapes me

I have never even heard mention of a square guide much less seen one

:nusenuse:

But then I am just a forum guy...

We dum. Here’s a pitcher

Looks like a triangular file

Edited to add: I blow the picture up and it looks like round cutter and a round file but the resolution really falls off

Feeling even dummer this morning cause I found this...

For all I know it's buried in this post somewhere and has already been covered

One of those "I didn't know because I never looked" moments

I looked at the Oregon jig and downloaded their instructions and I am not sure if their unit is adaptable to square but I had a Granberg years ago so I am a little familiar with it

Sold it with my first saw, a Poulan, back in the late 90s

As soon as I get a workbench made and a vise bought and mounted I will get a Granberg and see what I can mess up

Guess I will need triangle files as well...

It never ends does it

Yeah it’s buried in here somewhere in this thread.

This is an older Oregon jig with the triangle shaped ends that I mentioned earlier. You grind a little bit off the end of a double bevel file and it fits right in perfectly. But these new files with the round ends should fit in the newer jigs also, but I’m not certain. Like I mentioned before, the only problem is going to be indexing

I don’t think there’s any real great explanation in the archives, LOL. Just a few pictures that I posted up to show people that it will work if they’re having trouble doing it freehand. Before I bought my grinder, I found some pictures online and got searching eBay for older file jigs and I came up with a few like the one in the pictures. You’d really be surprised at what crazy angles you can actually get

Someone has talked about this before, I've been trying to remember who it was since last night, but I can't/haven't remembered who yet

Looks like its cutting well.
Nice low rpm grunt...
brought the rakers down a hair for the maple in the last video. May be a bit low for oak. I'm planning on deleting the base gasket and opening up the intake block on the saw so it should pick up a little after that.

I got my files. Just what I had hoped for when ordering. Both files shipped to my door for just over $20.
Yeah, the company I got through amazon ripped me off. Fortunately, when I brought it to Amazon's attention, they immediately recognized it as B.S. and refunded my friggin $80- and let me keep the file. Your prices are the same as my Stihl dealer. He just doesnt want to bring a whole case in. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. Great file though, right?
