I used to use my right hand for right and left cutters. But with a little practice I find it easier to switch hands now

Anyone got a good source for files? Baileys is over priced. I'm not spending that kind of money just to wreck a chain. The Save-Edge files are ok and if I can get them at a reasonable price in would but a box... thanks

I just bought 4 of these Bahco's. Haven't tried them yet...
Seems like Bahco's may be a little harder steel. Both made in Portugal.

I bought 5 double bevel files made by Woody's off facebook. It was a waste of money! Mo-fo's wont cut *s-word. Only thing they'll file is rakers. Oh well, they were $6 each, not terrible but not good. Dont buy any Woody's double bevel files!

Check with Dave. I know he used to at least have the Save edge files.

Speaking of which file is harder, I was reading today that in the past files were better steel and hardened all the way through but today they are just case hardened

Sadly it didn't say when they considered "the past"

Makes me wonder: A, is that true, and B, if it is true does it possibly explain why we have such varied luck with a given brand of file

Old vs new, or just variances in the depth and hardness of the case hardening process

I have the Save Edge and the new batch is much better than the recent files that were goofed up, Save Edge and Bahco are made on the same assembly line but are sharpened in different ways and places.
Save Edge are USA sharpened on blanks from Portugal.
