When I was in grade 9 my high school still offered a small engine class. It was the last year it was ever offered. Used to offer a drafting class too. They dropped the drafting just before I graduated. This was about 20-24 years ago. How thing change. Now it's all computer classes.
Yeah, we could take welding, mechanics, plumbing, carpentry, bunch of others. They all died out except carpentry, and they started the mechanic shop again a couple years ago. But kids don't want to get dirty anymore.

Me, I clicked the 1-3 years option... I have been doing my own basic maintenance on my own saws for probably 20+ years, but never got deeper into them doing complete overhauls and modding till a couple years ago when I found AS. I now do some side work for friends, family, and a local tree service doing everything from basic stuff to major overhauls. Now I'm here... :)

Started around 1976 , longer than a lot of you have been around :coti:

I should add that was chainsaws , I was already working on lawn mowers and changing engines in cars by the time I was 14 (1969) , the saws came later .

About 2 years working on saws for me. Always been mechanical, growing up on the farm, then went to school for automotive technician, wrenched on cars for 4-5 years then became a millwright for a few years and now I am a maintenance technician for a pharmaceutical company and work on saws for friends and of course I am now battling CAD.

About three years. I never had the patience for small gas engines when I was younger plus there used to be good techs to fix them.
I've always liked making things run and run better. Saw are a cheaper and much lighter way of doing that. No more bench pressing transmissions by hand.

It was about 20 years ago when I bought this place that I got serious about .What started it was Lombard Comango from a garage sale for 20 bucks .I had it running good after about a half hour of tinkering .I had been around power saws since I was a kid just never wrenched on many .--Still have that saw BTW,needs crank seals at the moment .

Like some others, I've fixed my own stuff since I was a kid. In the last 4 or 5 years I've grown a little more fond of saws. I grew up splitting and handling wood for or heat. I began to hate it until I put a wood furnace in my garage. Now, I heat my garage so I can fix my saws in the winter, so I can cut wood for heat for my garage....it's a vicious circle lol

I always had junk motorcycles and three wheelers when I was a kid. Dad didn't know *s-word about them and didn't care to so if I wanted to ride them I had to learn to repair them. I rebuilt a YZ125 when I was 14 or 15 and it ran like a scalded dog when I was done with it. I was proud as hell of that bike. I've done repair work off and on my whole adult life. It gets old sometimes because I turn wrenches all day then come home and do some more. I always fixed saws for my dad and myself but that was about it for saw work. I've really started to enjoy repairing saws the last couple years so here I am. Now I have 14 or so of my own and the wife's starting to notice..[emoji4]
