Pat that bar shipping can be a bit tricky ..View attachment 34293 Here it is with a 24" bar in it. The saw is waiting on an AV buffer but I threw the bar on so you can see. I had to put some spikes on because the balance is poor. It will fall forward without them.
The bar is for the Drf 036 when it needs just a little more length, but I plan on running it on the stock 036 to see how it does. On the ported one I'm running a Sugi 20" . This red lever will get an 18" 3/8View attachment 34290
I haven't cut with it yet but it's a nice, inexpensive, solid bar from @04ultra. It feels very similar to a solid Total but has an Oregon tip. I'd love another LW bar but I'm not planning on using this bar too much.
Yes it is pretty long and heavy. Thank goodness you're local. Can't wait to try it out.
The main reason I like a 24" bar is because it's easier limbing as I don't have to bend over as much. Truth be told I could get away with a 20"bar for 99 percent of what I cut.if you need something to pull a 25'' keeps your eyes on a 044,440 046,460,461 they don't weigh much more.
powder coat is better and wont peel away i would recommend paint if it was going to be a shelf queen.Next thing I need to decide is if I want to really spend some money on this saw and do a complete tear down with new everything. I would also like to powder coat everything so the saw looks new again. I feel this may be a waste though if the current bearings and seals are still in good working order. Has anyone repainted a saw that wasn't completely torn down with the ford gray spray paint?
I guess I need to break down and split the cases so I can powder coat it, being that my saws all see action.powder coat is better and wont peel away i would recommend paint if it was going to be a shelf queen.
I have been working and haven't had the opportunity to check the top end. Will report back once I do. I am not looking for a beauty queen but I like my saws to look nice. This one needs some help. As far as money goes I do powder coating so I wouldn't have to spring for that. Other thing is I haven't separated a crankcase before and would like to give it a try. I don't know. Maybe your right and I should just get it in running order and sell it to fund a 044/MS440. Decisions decisions.Maybe I missed it, how's the topend? If you are looking for a beauty queen I think you started with the wrong saw. You'll be in way too deep, but maybe that doesn't matter. There are plenty of 036/360s in nice shape. I'd get the one you've got running give it a bath and sell it to fund something nicer to start with.
Why does it have to be split for powder coating? Unless it needed bearings..
Makes sense. I wasn't thinking about sandblasting. How are you gonna keep blast material out bearings any oil residue in oil tank or bottom end is gonna bleed onto powder when baked at 400 for ten minutes its gonna be hard to mask off crank and bearings Its so much easier to do apart on my end I dont think id do it together ! My 2 cents
