Honey locust + SCarr394

Got the call for a paying job. Once on-site I realize there’s no way I’m milling the base.





So I got started on some smaller pieces.

Over one tank of mix per cut. She’s thirsty!


At this point, landowner flipped the log over.

Next to last pic you can see the big crack I was trying to cut around.

Cut a few at 4” thick.

Was using 3 chains and one was a bit too hungry. Getting through this wood was not a quick process and I tried to speed it up as much as possible. I definitely found the limit.

Saw was getting through this pretty quick.

One more small chunk and the rest is firewood.

How do you like the scarr394? Was it ported for milling or?
Ive been tempted to throw my xs394 on the mill just to see.. but as kevin puts it its ported like a small block chevy in a vega. Lol

I don’t think Shaun did anything specific for mill duty. This isn’t a mill only saw, in fact, I plan on slowing down doing it. It’s a hoss of a saw. Absolutely no disappointment here.

Standard woods port. Run a big bar or win grudge matches at you local GTG.

Had to trim the width to 35 on this one. Then set up for first cut and made a total of 5 in 1.5 hrs. Chain could easily finish this log.

Agreed. I’d love to see some of these when finished.

Made a few more cuts today.


Touching up the chains tonight, noticed one is about shot and another just about split!

Last cuts made on this locust. Got 2 more small slabs, not sure what he’ll do with the rest.


Chain was sheeit.




Rest is firewood.
