Wrong saw, but I can look up the ipl for this one.It helps if you have the IPL, here is a shot from the page with the recoil.

Here is a link to the .pdf of the IPL: https://www.leonschainsawpartsandre...9/39792537/homelite_500_ipl__7-60__23483_.pdf
My goal was going to be to leave the spring alone and only install new rope, in hopes to avoid dealing with the spring, as I hate them lol...Did you take the spring out and clean that area? I have found with all of my McCullochs and Homelite they needed the entire assembly taken apart and cleaned out...lots of gunk in there. I had to really scrape some crap off of the spring. It works MUCH MUCH better when it is all cleaned out and lubed back up!! I am working on my McCulloch 200 recoil right now. I had to take a dremel to it to knock off the hardened gunk and metal rot. Its looking really good right now, even having to rebuild some spots with JB Weld. Everything moves easily now!
Like @BDSAWS stated, it can be tricky to get the pully back on the spring. Luckily the end of your spring is still intact, but it does take some practice and patience to get it back on.
Yeah, I see that now...Wrong saw, but I can look up the ipl for this one.
I hear that, they can be frustrating!in hopes to avoid dealing with the spring, as I hate them lol...
the hole for the pull cord is made for this put the pulley on the shaft and with a small pick and push the spring outward and the pulley should slide onMy goal was going to be to leave the spring alone and only install new rope, in hopes to avoid dealing with the spring, as I hate them lol...
Yeah, I see that now...

Hah, my McCulloch pulleys don't have that hole, its just hunt and peck trying to drop it on the end of the spring...that hole would definitely make it a lot easier!!the hole for the pull cord is made for this put the pulley on the shaft and with a small pick and push the spring outward and the pulley should slide on
heck you can drill it! much easierHah, my McCulloch pulleys don't have that hole, its just hunt and peck trying to drop it on the end of the spring...that hole would definitely make it a lot easier!!
Yeah, it would make it much easier to do that. I had to drill a hole in my truck door just so I could get a tool in and take out the locks...what a pain...lolheck you can drill it! much easier
