Good to know, well I'll keep an eye out for 1/2 or 9/16 then. May get the .404 bar, chain, & sprocket for now so I can cut with the saw and when I find the bigger chain I'll change it back over. Be interesting to see if it cuts faster with the bigger teeth.
It will cut very fast if you ever find 1/2" chisel for it. Like 125 fast or better. Raker height and wood type were major considerations back in the day, or so I've read. If you ever stand back and watch one of these gear drives cut a big log with the proper chain setup, you will come away amazed at their speed. Remember, they were doing this for a living and time was certainly money, as it is today.

Well the good news is that I have a line on plenty of Oregon 10AC chain...bad news is the torture of waiting for my offer to be accepted or declined. lol
Well I got the carb mostly fixed this evening. Installed a good oem needle and seat and stretched the metering spring a bit. Holds pressure but not as much as I'd like. The 770gs's carb held the same and it hasn't weeped or loaded up yet so fingers crossed this one will be fine as well. Just need to drill an oil hole for the bar and it will be done.

Any ideas on what color the helper handle should be??? I'm thinking green and maybe painting the knob silver.

Saw is green chassis with red covers, so I'd go with green chassis with red knob for the helper. If there were some charcoal/silver somewhere on the powerhead I'd prolly opt for using the same color on the handle, but there's not, so the third color might feel a bit out of place (to me at least).

Either way, that saw is beautiful. Like everyone else around here, I can't wait to see (and hear) a video of it gnawin' through a big log.

My initial thoughts were also green with a red knob or silver. Trying not to over think that haha Thanks man! Should be running soon.

I had one of the gear reduction Homies when I was 16 (63 this July)...I don't have the saw but I still have the chipped tooth (crowned) from where I fell on the bar with the saw running (luckily I had my mouth open) True Story !
Good thing the chains turned so slow! lol

@TJ the Chainsaw Mechanic can you show me this 1/2" chain next to some .375 chain and maybe some .325 or .404 for a size reference. I think i have some 1/2 or 7/16 chain that came on a old Clinton super 250 a few years ago. Does anyone know if there is a cheat sheet out that shows how to decode the numbering system on sone of this odd chain?

This comes in handy on occasion but only goes up to .404. The little illustration at the bottom should give you the general idea of how to measure anything larger. Any three rivets will do.
