First the disclaimer: This is a saw for myself and a test. Not something I would recommend for a customer saw, but we'll see how it holds up. :)

Maybe I'm late to the party and this has been done before, but I came up with this without Google. :)

I have a 2186 Jonsered that I'm putting together out of basket cases.....Had a good looking bottom end and put on a good 385 top end I had. When vac test time came it failed and turns out to have the typical loose fit between the crank and bearing that plagues many 385, 390's and the 2186/2188.

I really didn't want to dismantle it and do a case split, so I decided to clean the inner race area with brake clean and then applied a bead of Loctite 620 around the shaft/race area and then applied 15 in/hg of vacuum....It slowly drew the loctite into the gap and I applied more until I thought I had enough in the bore.........We shall see how it holds up. :)

I did that to an 064 about 6 - 7 years ago, used vac and its still going strong, hasn`t broke free yet but at the time I thought the case expansion when heated from running might be greater than the steel bearing race and the difference would break the bond, that hasn`t happened yet, more than 200 tanks through it. Best of luck on yours Rob.
