Don’t find as near as much info on these as a lot of the others, so figured I’d start a thread on them. I bought mine after using my 660 in an Alaska mill, and realizing that it was not the answer when it came to pulling a 42” bar, even thru softwood.

I do this for fun and no other reason really, so spending 1500-2000 on a saw that would live in a mill didn’t seem smart. Decided to try the G3120, as it was $450 compared to the 888 which was a bit more. Was also attracted to the oiler and having a manual option seemed like a good idea milling.

Received saw and have to say first impression is the look pretty good. The chain brake is wonky for sure and def doesn’t feel like anything that would have come from a name brand. Was able to get it started right up and it sounds like an old husky! I fully expect that I will have parts that fail and I plan to slowly replace them with OEM as that happens.

And yes, I swapped the decals lol

Didn’t take a ton of time to run into the first issues, tho they are minor.

Filled up tank with fuel and cut first slabs with it no prob. When it came time to refuel, the oring had swelled and now needs to be persuaded into its home to keep fuel from spilling.

The cable on the oiler button/switch somehow came unhooked.

And the weirdest so far… 1/4 way thru another slab it just chucked the air filter cover off. I had take it off just to see what it had for a filter and that has been it. The threads are stripped on both the screw and the adapter to the carb. Haven’t decided if I upgrade to OEM or just do a velocity stack on this one yet, any suggestions?

Factory foam filter and cage is a good upgrade to the stock felt filter.

I have a 2100 and I put a velocity stack on it because I want it to breath....I don't want to be bearing down on it and it yelling back at me "I can't breath...I can't breath..."

Edit: Also the stripped threads and pop-top filter, chalk it up under some of the cost savings. For the savings, you can upgrade some parts and still have a quality saw!

I’m leaning towards the vstack as well. I know these huskies are supposed to filter pretty well as is but since it’s used for milling and the filter is away from the chips I figured it would be just fine. I have a feeling it’s going to have quite a bit of husky parts on it before long, I’d like to get the carb swapped and a 272xp coil and let er rip

Well it didn’t take long for our first catastrophic failure, and not sure it could have been much worse. Keep in mind this saws only intention was to live on an Alaskan mill and that’s all I have ever used it for. I have cut approx 8 or 9 slabs so far with this thing, 5 or so have been 13’ long.

Went out yesterday to help a buddy mill some cedar beams, and got 1/4 way thru the 2nd slab before it blew up. After getting the thing apart yesterday, looks like if I want to use it again it will be a full rebuild. Haven’t gotten the case apart yet, but it definitely had a crank failure and seems to be the bearing on the big end of the rod failed, and drug a bunch of material thru the case and wiped out the cylinder and piston. I would be fine with replacing the top end as I’d like to upgrade to a higher quality P/C. My problems seem to begin finding a crank for a 3120.

Initial plan was to use an OEM Husky crank, but they’re proving to be difficult to find online, and we don’t have a ton of Husky dealers here and I don’t want to know what the cost of a crank from a dealer would be. There’s 0 chance I’d gamble on another farmertec/holzfforma crank, are there any aftermarket options that aren’t junk? I’ll probably go with a meteor kit for the top end as I’ve been happy with the one I put in my 660 recently.

Saw was ran with nothing but ethanol free gas mixed 40:1 with red armor. Looking back I’d probably go with 32:1, but I don’t think that would have saved much. Definitely looks like a part failure and the piston and cylinder look fine apart from the damage from bearing pieces getting sucked thru. I’ll try and post some pictures tomorrow as I only have a video of the carnage

Sorry to hear about the crank failure. I was hoping these had a bit more longevity.
I looked on PartsTree. $565 for new OEM. You may be better off with another $75 crank from Asia.
