Also yes true I could can and will just use another 66, but I thought it would be interesting just to work on it being so long in the tooth and share that with you guy's..
I get enjoyment tinkering with saws it's a hobby that's all , I don't get enjoyment hanging off saws at work anymore am over it and looking forward to the sawmill closing can do something different for a change..If this saw needed any more like the cases split bearings seals rings etc I'd throw it in the parts bin and be done with it I don't actually need to fix this saw that's true but I will feel a sense of achievement if I can get it back into service, not that there seems to have been much wrong with it..
I'll know tomorrow fingers crossed.

Update I never did get this saw to run right again??..I ended up replacing fuel line/impulse line/intake boot/carb with a known good carb/new fuel tank vent/brand new coil/many spark plugs, pretty much everything only one bolt on left to try that's a flywheel?
I have a flywheel off a good running 066 to try I just have not bothered as yet to try it. Seen the saw sitting in the dirt under a bench the after week and got me thinking that's right I still have to try and get the old girl going again.

K this is the strange thing with it runs fine for like 5 min then slowly dies in revs until it stops, let it cool for a bit fires right buck up same thing cuts runs fine 5min or so and slowly dies and it will not restart tell it cools some WTF? still has good compression and runs strong its not like ya thinking cutting with it man this saw is sick or anything runs sweet but for like only 5min.kind of like its running out of fuel but it does not lean out and pick up lean revs it just slowly dies like turning down the volume?.
IDK what's up with it I've had saws with air leaks before and symptoms are nothing like an air leak? guess I will try the flywheel and if that dont fix it I might accidentally spill fuel all over it and set it on fire lol.

I've seen the flywheel bad on that model just once. How or why it happens......I have no idea.

Worth trying another one on though.

No play that I could feel by hand seals looked good and I filled the crank case up with mix let it sit and yeah no leaks? but no pressure test as such I don't get it has me beat?... I've had one 066 think it was a 660 actually that did the pto side crank bearing in and ran that saw for like 3-4 days like that the air leak just got worse and worse in the end it like idling at 3k lol
This one is just odd doesn't act like an air leak but who knows may well be crank seals? I will try the flywheel if that don't fix it its definitely something to do with crankcase pressure maybe?..

Id try flywheel and replace seals. Id really look at the pto bearing area for signs of a leak.

@rogue60
Did you burn this saw or did you get it running?
I've still got this saw but never looked at it again from memory the last thing to try was a flywheel?
I have a flywheel to try and seeing this thread again might fire me up to have a look at the saw and see if I can get it running poor old thing lol.

For our needs logging and sawmilling they have served us well over the years just a hard working saw.
Just basic maintenance and replace ware items as needed, blow the cooling system out with air every now and then. I've only seen two failures as such a snapped crank on a ms660 and one ms660 did a crank bearing in but it had a lot of hrs on it.

They all start out new and shiny.

Decomp is always the first place to start if you suspect an air leak. Brings constant joy to my black heart that these saws kept the old filler caps until the end. I love these saws, 026 and 044's and hope mine last forever.

My 660 failed last week. First time ever in seven plus years. It was flooded front the heat sitting in my pu truck with a black bed liner. Swapped the plug and it was a pia to start but killed that big maple. That was the day I tossed the chain on the sixty.
Zero trouble since but a carb kit and rubbers are in it's near future.

Hey Rogue, wondering if you ever got around to fixing this saw?
No haven't looked at in years it's sitting on a shelf covered in dust and spider webs. Have a flywheel for it as the last thing to try haven't forgotten will get around to it one day will update this if I get it running as it should again.
Good thing I don't fix saws for a living would be a 10 year wait lol

Yeah I remember doing something with the tank vent a new one or one out of another saw. I think the flywheel was literally the last thing I hadn't replaced/tried.

I’d love to get it running for you, but I’d imagine the postage costs would make it cost prohibited? I don’t think there would be much change in 200 dollars return!
