JJ u remember what the modding was for? I think its a OE 288 wrap that someone flattened the top of the tube to put a bolt through cuz they used it on a 394/5 for the AV mount. Yeah that's an original OEM 288 handle but a local yokel modified it to fit his 394 while he was working some big fires a few years ago.

I can help with Christmas too @Funky sawman although Nick has the last good 288 full-wrap handle I had (this one that was modified).

Maybe it is time for a saw with easier to find parts? If parts are that hard to find for a 281, it might be worth more in parts anyway than as a work saw. Just a thought.

Yea I'm thinking that too. I'm staying away from Stihl for now, poor customer service locally. Was wanting to stick with non computer carb so that's why the 281 was a candidate.
